Sonerila , a large genus of the tribe Sonerilaeae, comprises about 175 species in tropical Asia. In Ceylon 22 species are recognized and most of them can be grouped into three endemic species groups. Descriptions, discussions, and a key to all species as well as illustrations of them are provided. S. crassicaulis Lundin and S. silvatica Lundin are described and the new combinations S. glabricaulis (C.B. Cl.) Lundin and 5. firma (C.B. CI.) Lundin are made. All species are endemic to Ceylon, where they are confined to the central and the south western parts. They are herbaceous to somewhat woody herbs.
