summary A Portfolio is an instrument for continuing professional development, which can be used by all members of the multidisciplinary team. This paper describes the development of the EDTNA/ERCA Professional Portfolio and discusses how health care professionals are able to complete and utilise the Portfolio in everyday practice. A discussion on reflective practice is presented and a short example of reflective writing is given. The paper concludes with an evaluation of possible Portfolio use in teaching and management and plans for future development.
