Summary To assess the feasibility and usefulness of administering a quality of life (QoL) questionnaire in routine clinical practice, we performed a 5‐centre UK study with nurses administering a disease‐specific questionnaire, the Renal Quality of Life Profile (RQLP), to 140 patients. The completed questionnaires were reviewed by the nurse who felt that there were issues requiring discussion in 46% of patients. These issues were either discussed with the nurse immediately in person (65%), or the patient was contacted by telephone (28%) or post (7%) and appropriate referrals and interventions were actioned. We conclude that measurement of QoL is feasible and useful in routine clinical nursing practice.
