Summary Children with haemodialysis catheters can suffer serious complications related to activity, cognitive level, and hospitalisation. The objective of this study was to improve our patients' quality of life by studying catheter fixation and preservation of skin integrity. In this descriptive‐prospective study we used a hydrocolloid dressing to fix the catheter and an elastic tubular mesh to complete the immobilisation. We studied 21 catheters in 6 children, aged 3 to 11 years, from December 95 to April 98. Of the 21 catheters, 13 were changed and 6 were removed. The incidence of local infection was 38% and general infection 28%. The mean duration was 42 days.
