This paper is a critique of research in women's studies from the perspective of the sociology of knowledge. It argues that as a result of dual commitment to feminist social movement sympathies and research activities, the temptation is there to mistake our ideological preferences and pronouncements for social ‘reality.’ However, value neutrality on the part of individuals is neither possible nor desirable. Instead, ‘triangulation’ of ideologies, or conflict of perspectives, is advocated.
