Uveitis may exist as a clinical manifestation of an underlying systemic disease or may represent an idiopathic entity, sometimes with a very characteristic pattern. A plethora of ocular complications including cataract, glaucoma, macular edema and retinal detachment are associated with intermediate uveitis, posterior uveitis, or panuveitis and may occur during the acute, active phase or even when remission of the inflammatory process has been achieved. Early diagnosis and optimal treatment initiatives remain imperative to reduce the ocular complication–related burden and attain better functional and anatomical outcomes.
