The scope of vitreoretinal intervention in patients with uveitis has recently expanded. Therapeutic vitrectomy is performed to address complications such as visual loss from vitreous opacities, retinal detachment, development of epiretinal membranes, hypotony and also in certain cases to remove confined infective foci and assist in sustained drug delivery and diagnosis. While a plethora of studies report favorable outcomes of PPV in the management of uveitis, the quality of data remains poor, with a paucity of standardized reporting and limited prospective data. We will discuss our own experience and review the literature on each of the above surgical indications.
