Purpose To review the current and future role of retinal oximetry in the clinical management of retinal disorders. Methods By review of the published literature. Results Examples of retinal oximetry use in retinal and retinovascular disorders will be presented. Conclusion In the age of widespread use of anti‐VEGF agents in retinal disorders, retinal imaging has become paramount for the treating ophthalmologist. Retinal oximetry enables retinal imaging to be coupled with an assessment of metabolic function of the retina and this may permit more targeted therapies to be given.
