Purpose When a patient reports visual loss and the doctor can not immediately find the etiology, a non‐organic visual loss has to be excluded. Methods Different testing methods can be of value in deciding on organic versus non‐organic visual loss: visual acuity and visual field measurements, pupillary reflexes, electrophysiologic testing, imaging techniques, ... Results The value of these different methods will be discussed and illustrated Conclusion The investigation of possible non‐organic visual loss is a complex task
