Sixtythree cases of primary retinal detachments were treated with pneumatic retinopexy and analyzed retrospectively. The method differed slightly from the original procedure in the fact that highly elevated retinal detachments were generously drained for subretinal fluid, 12 of 63 cases. The follow‐up time was 7 – 23 months. After the primary operation 49 = 78% healed anatomically. The total success rate was 92 percent with additional operations. New breaks were found in 6 percent and 8 percent developed PVR. Results in visual acuity correspond well with results from scleral buckling.
