Abstract. For local radiation therapy and follow‐up of uveal malignant melanoma estimation of the tumour height is essential. The height values received by ophthalmoscopy were found to be inaccurate and lower (mean 86%) than those measured directly on the tumour after enucleation. The ultrasonographic height estimation exceeded the histopathologic height by 9–20%, which may be partly due to shrinkage of the tumour during fixation. By ultrasonography, the response of tumour to radiation was seen in decreased tumour height and increased reflectivity within the tumour.
