It remains unknown what mechanisms underlie the association between the HLA system and susceptibility to certain ocular diseases. Genetic mechanism, as well as the biological mechanism may explain some of associations. It is obvious that various diseases cannot be expected to fit one model. Further studies of the true biological function of HLA gene products may elucidate the pathogenesis of various diseases.
