A brief discussion of the cellular —‐ delayed type —‐ hypersensitivity with special regard to graft rejection is given. Various methods of suppressing this process are mentioned, followed by a description of one of the more specific and clinically promising methods ‐ namely extracorporeal irradiation of the blood (ECIB). The first known case in which ECIB was performed prior to and after a corneal transplantation in a previously transplantated eye is reported. The favourable result, although standing alone and not conclusive, should stimulate further, controlled investigation.
