monly used. Binoculus was rcinoved on the first postoperative day. This together with smooth anaesthesia helps to prevent the mental distnrbances commonly seen in geriatric patients postoperatively. Anaesthetic difficulties, usually too light analgesia, were the nieans causes of vitreous complications, seen in 8 patients. With increasing experience of the anaesthesist these complications will be rare. The lowering of intraocular pressure was 12.3 per cent with succinyl choline and 14.1 per cent whcn gallamine was used for endotracheal intubation. As there was no average rise after intubation when succinyl choline was used there is no reason to omit this drug from cataract operations.
