The main object of the work here presented has been to throw some light on the clinical picture and the histopathology of the malignant nasopharyngeal tumours, particularly from ophthalmoneurologic points of view, in order, if possible, to contribute to an earlier recognition of these cases, which are often misjudged and mistakenly treated for rather a long time, a fact that is to be regrettea, because, unlike what was previously the case, modern radiological therapy is now capable of making the patients permanently symptom-free. The patient maferial comprises 454 cases of primary, malignant nasopharyngeal fumours (carcinomas and sarcomas) from 4 of the 1 argest radiological clinics of Scandinavia, viz. the Radiumhemmet, Stockholm, Kung Gustaf Vtes Jubilaeumsltlinik, Lund, and the Radiologic Clinics of Copenhagen and Aarhus. The present material is more than double the size of the one that was previously regarded as the largest. Criteria of the included cases and further details as to the composition of the material are mentioned in chapter I.
