This article describes the advantages of using laser therapy as an alternative method of treatment of gingival hyperplasia for a patient who is mentally compromised and has epilepsy. Advantages and disadvantages of the C0 2 laser are discussed. When excising tissue with the C0 2 laser, postoperative bleeding and discomfort are minimized, eliminating the need for a postoperative dressing. A case report describes a patient who was treated effectively with this technique.
