Treatment of patients with developmentally disabling conditions presents significant problems to the general practitioner. Oral and intravenous sedation techniques are often adequate to control the behavior of these individuals. General anesthesia provides a safe and convenient aid. Contemporary guidelines are presented to help the dentist manage these special patients.
