SUMMARY Forty‐two senior dental students participated in a 3‐day clinical rotation in which they treated children with handicapping conditions. A questionnaire was given before and after the experience to determine whether the clinical rotation was effective in altering the students' perceived confidence and attitudes toward treating these children. After the rotation, there was a statistically significant increase in confidence, but no change in perceived attitudes.
