SUMMARY The increasing treatment responsibilities of the practicing pedodontist have placed new demands on postdoctoral training programs. To meet one of these challenges, the department of pedodontics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, with the cooperation of Cleft Palate Center, has incorporated a program in the treatment of children with congenital orofacial clefts into its postdoctoral pedodontic training. This paper describes the structure of the program and discusses the integration of the didactic and clinical phases.
