AUSTRALIAN AND NEW ZEALAND JOURNAL OF PUBLIC HEALTH 579 © 2011 The Authors. ANZJPH © 2011 Public Health Association of Australia was the causative organism in seven causes, Aeromonas hydrophilia in six and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in one. Cyclone Yasi was the worst storm to hit Far North Queensland in recorded history. Recent weather patterns suggest an increasing frequency of storms affecting tropical areas. Based on the experiences gained from Cyclone Yasi, several proposals have been put forward to deal with future tropical cyclones. These include cyclone-proofing parts of the hospital to maintain care in key facilities. Establishing a secondary medical centre inland tailored to provide effective medical care in the event of a storm is a critical part of this planning.
