This paper is an exploration of Matte Blanco's account of the emergence of thought from the affective unconscious. I describe his notion of bi‐logic and the interplay of symmetrical and asymmetrical logics in our thinking. I take dream as being a form of thinking akin to literature and art in which our internal world with all its emotions finds its voice. Through a study of some of my own and my patients' dreams I attempt to show how the process of meaning‐making takes place.
