My intention in this paper is to explore certain kinds of triadic relationships which occur with some frequency in the traditional narratives of Ireland and Wales. I attempt to elucidate their dynamic structure and compare and contrast them with psychoanalytic perspectives on Oedipus. The paper concludes by questioning the validity of applied psychoanalysis and asserting the creativity of narrative forms.
