SUMMARY. This paper focuses on, and illustrates with clinical material, some of the specific problems of adoption both for the parents and for the child. It also tries to define some of the psychological peculiarities characteristic of couples who ask for adoption. After this introduction, we explain the modalities of the pre‐adoptive diagnosis used by our Service with their theoretical background, their aims, the problems involved, and the results they intend to achieve.
