. An outline is presented of cognitive therapy beginning with the basic underlying theory followed by a description of the structure of therapy. A number of weak points within cognitive therapy are then identified, in particular, the failure to focus on the development of a working alliance, termination issues in therapy, and the concept of unconscious conflict. It is argued therefore that cognitive therapy has much that could be learned from the dynamic psychotherapies.
