The “Oxford Large Group Study Group” has regularly discussed the large groups taking place in seven local psychiatric facilities. Psychodynamic and other anthropological concepts have proved of value in attempting to understand the complex events presented, with the central role of the “theme” being confirmed. The extension of psychotherapy supervision to the large group appears to have been of value to the study group's members and may also have helped the participating units.
