A rubrene derivative has been synthesized as a new trap for singlet oxygen in aqueous solution. Photooxygenation and evolution of the endoperoxide under various conditions have been investigated. This trap may be used either as a colorimetric test or as a specific one by isolation of the endoperoxide.
