— We have designed cells to study the reactions of singlet oxygen and related species in which the pressure of oxygen can be varied between 1 and 150atm. (0.1 and 15MPa). These cells allow routine absorption spectroscopy of solutions, optical excitation of 3 O 2 to 1 O 2 in a laser photolysis system and formation of 1 O 2 and O ‐ 2aq in a pulse radiolysis system. The laser photolysis cell and the pulse radiolysis cell are parts of a flow system which operates independently of the gas pressure. In designing these cells safety has been one of the important considerations.
