—Photosensitized oxidations of guanosine in aqueous methanol were investigated with a variety of sensitizers, and several experimental tests for the participation of singlet oxygen were examined. It has been shown that the dye‐sensitized photooxidation of guanosine proceeds by both singlet‐oxygen and Type I mechanisms, and that the efficiency of the singlet‐oxygen mechanism is strongly dependent on photosensitizer type.
