—Sulfhydryl compounds such as cysteine and glutathione enhance the photochemical reactivity of 5‐bromouracil irradiated in aqueous solution with ultraviolet light (Λ > 240 nm). Production of uracil and addition of the sulfhydryl compound to the 5‐bromouracil residue are the major photoreactions.
