— The mechanisms of sensitized cis‐trans ‐isomerization of olefins and polyenes are discussed. Three general mechanisms which embrace a range of interactions between the sensitizer and olefin or polyene are considered: radiationless electronic excitation transfer, chemical addition‐elimination, and energy transfer to non‐spectroscopic states.
