— Some observations are discussed which bear upon the mutual relationship of U.V. erythema and delayed pigmentation. The location of the pigmentation with respect to the exposed skin area suggests that the pigmentation is influenced by the preceding vasodilations. The influence of the pigmentation on the sensitivity of the skin to ultraviolet radiation of different wavelengths appears to support the hypothesis of two distinct erythemal effects of U.V. radiation. This leads to an integration of some long‐known phenomena in the theoretical considerations.
