In recent years there has been a tendency to avoid the use of absorbable alkalies in the treatment of peptic ulcer, and to search for antacid substances which do not affect the acidbase equilibrium of the body as a whole. Among these newer substances may be mentioned mucin, magnesium trisilicate and colloidal suspensions of aluminium hydroxide.
