Ulrich Zwingli

Ulrich Zwingli 1 can be called the father of Reformed Protestantism, which has its historical origins in Zurich. Zwingli's role as a reformer was deeply influenced by his already developed humanist values, integrating them into his reformation theology. Although his final development into a reformer and the Zurich Reformation could hardly be imagined without Luther and the events around the ‘Luther‐Affair’, Zwingli represents an independent form of reformation theology. Different perspectives, which have their origin in different biographical roots and circumstances, play a role here. Although Reformed Protestantism was later equated with ‘Calvinism’, it owes its fundamental design to a considerable degree to the Zurich reformer.
