A new intervention was tested to teach self‐monitoring skills to long‐term urinary catheter users. This intervention is described in detail. Self‐monitoring (a component of self‐management) involves awareness of what to notice, observations, and simple recordings related to urine flow and associated catheter problems. Self‐management strategies were provided, based on the person’s initial self‐monitoring and catheter‐related problems. The intervention was judged feasible. Study participants responded favorably to the intervention and seemed interested in learning more about catheter self‐management.
