Fishery products represent one alternative to improve nutrition levels for low‐income consumers. Governments and aid organizations in Less Developed Countries often attempt to help low‐income consumers and simultaneously to improve fishery marketing operations. Increased market stability beneficial to sellers and/or high‐income consumers of fishery products may have serious distributional consequences in an equity context which completely eliminate low‐income consumers from purchasing products. Aquacultural alternatives are discussed as means to satisfy low‐income demands and raise incomes of sellers of fishery products.
