Crawfish are cultured in shallow, open ponds surrounded on all sides by levees. To insure high production it is essential that high quality water be maintained in the pond. Ponds should be constructed in such a fashion that aerated water is circulated through all areas of the pond in order to avoid areas of low oxygen. With good quality water and sound management practices up to 2,200 kg ha ‐1 or more of crawfish may be produced annually.
