A feeding program was developed for channel catfish ( Ictalurus punctatus ) which takes into consideration fish body size and water temperature. Recommended daily rations at 29°C ranged from 4.4% body weight for small fingerlings (76 nun) to 1.4% for harvest‐sized fish (454 g). Rations are reduced at lower temperatures. Rations are adjusted daily based upon the assumption that catfish growth in length averaged 1.27 mm per day. Conversion (g food fed/g net gain) averaged 1.20 (±0.02) in eight separate trials over two years. A separate experiment tested the assumption of linearity of growth in length. Length increments were essentially linear when water temperature exceeded 25°C.
