Relative efficacy of two substrates commonly employed for procuring scallop spat is described. Monofilament gillnetting was superior to flexible polyethylene insofar as collecting greater numbers of sea scallops was concerned. Overlapping in sheet polyethylene resulted in rapid substrate saturation thus reducing substrate surface for larval attachment.
