
AMINO ACID COMPOSITION OF THE TAIL MUSCLE OF Macrobrachium rosenbergii –COMPARISON TO AMINO ACID PATTERNS OF SUPPLEMENTED COMMERCIAL FEED PELLETS

The amino acid patterns of the commercial feed Purina Marine Ration, a reconstituted feed repelletized from the commercial ration after addition of binder, and the fresh tail muscle of Macrobrachium rosenbergii were compared by computing the normalized % ratio for each amino acid. The muscle was appreciably lower in glutamic acid and proline and higher in isoleucine, lysine and arginine when compared with the base pellet. Supplementation of the repelletized feed with separate crystalline essential amino acids at a 1% level stimulated the relative growth/conversion index in the case of lysine, arginine, tryptophan, leucine, and isoleucine. The protein efficiency ratio (PER) was strongly stimulated by lysine, and to a lesser extent by arginine, leucine and isoleucine supplementation.
