The thermal discharge of the Tampa Electric Company's Big Bend Power Plant on Tampa Bay was used for culturing indigenous organisms. The growth rate of diverse animals, such as crabs, oysters, and finfish, was recorded and their behavior pattern in the elevated temperatures noted. This study began June 1, 1971, and is still in progress.
