Plasma torch with liquid stabilized (Gerdien) are was investigated experimentally. Mixture of water and ethanol was used as a stabilizing medium. Volt‐ampere characteristics and power balance of the arc were measured. Radial profiles of temperature at the torch exit and composition of plasma in generated plasma jet were found by methods of emission spectroscopy. Exit plasma velocity and total mass flow rate, which is given by the evaporation rate from the stabilizing liquid, were determined from the measured data. The results of experiments show substantial effect of addition of small amount of ethanol into water on basic arc characteristics and properties of plasma jet.
