A bstract : The availability of in vivo repopulation assays had greatly aided the study of human hematopoietic stem cells. Here, I shall review recent data that has identified a novel class of human repopulating cells that do not express classical stem cell markers including CD34 but still retain the ability to repopulate nonobese diabetic/severe combined immunodeficient (NOD/SCID) mice.
