Bioterrorism, or the intentional and hostile introduction of harmful organisms and/ or disease pathogens, poses a significant threat to the United States. Specifically, it threatens our country’s agricultural industries, human health and safety, our economy, and ultimately our national security. In response to the threat of bioterrorism, the Department of Agriculture (USDA) is involved in federal efforts to bolster our national defenses to protect both U.S. agriculture and human safety from bioterrorism.
