The uses of ultrafiltration membranes have been reviewed for a variety of processes used in the emerging field of biotechnology. These uses range from concentration and harvesting of cells to product isolation to production by continuous fermentation and cell culture. As biotechnology expands into production use, the importance of ultrafiltration will continue to grow in the years to come.
