Summary Vulvovaginitis in childhood has been defined and a working classification devised. The diagnosis is made by a thorough history, physical examination, and the use of appropriate laboratory aids. Adequate examination of the vagina and cervix and the taking of cultures are absolutely necessary in all cases. Treatment should be individualized on the basis of the etiologic agent involved. The importance of personal cleanliness cannot be overemphasized, as it is probably the most important factor in the treatment.
