New Record of the Coastal Species, Heterota onorum Maruyama in Korea (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Aleocharinae)

While collecting the Korean seashore Staphylinidae, we found unusual rove beetles under decaying seaweeds along beaches of the southern coasts. As a result of the detailed study of them, we identified them as Heterota onorum Maruyama, new to Korean fauna. Heterota Mulsant and Rey contains 11 species worldwide and one species ( H . sunjaei ) in Korea, all members of which are confined to coastal habitat and usually found under decaying seaweeds on rocky shore or sandy beach. The genus can be recognized by the combination of following characters: broad occiput; prominent eyes; narrow and long ligula; labial palpi with two articles; transverse pronotum; tarsal formula 4‐4‐5. In this study, we present a habitus photographs, diagnosis, illustrations of diagnostic characters, and distributional map of the species.
