Three cases of distal oesophageal stricture which developed after ovariohysterectomy, carried out under atropine‐xylazine‐ketamine anaesthesia in the cat are reviewed. Diagnosis was based upon medical history, clinical signs and contrast radiography and confirmed by endoscopy. Dilatation was successfully attempted in one case by advancing the endoscope through the stricture. The multifactorial pathogenesis of the condition and the diagnostic and therapeutic methods applied are discussed.
