A transarticular loop of autogenous fascia lata was used to stabilise the coxofemoral joint following open reduction of recurrent and long standing hip luxation in 10 dogs and two cats. The caudolateral approach used proved to be simple and allowed good visualisation. Good results were obtained and only one of 12 cases reluxated in a follow‐up period varying from three months to one year. The loop technique required little sophisticated equipment and is within the scope of the average surgeon.
