Weekly acupuncture needling was used in the treatment of osteoarthritis in 61 dogs. A total of 117 joints were treated, plus three vertebral columns. The results were evaluated on a five point scale. The average number of treatments per series was 5‐2 and the average scale was 3–5. Hips, knees and shoulders responded better than the other joints. Some aspects of the mechanism of acupuncture in the treatment of osteoarthritis are described.
