The clinical signs, gross pathology and histopathological findings of three kittens with Tyzzer's disease are described. The three affected kittens were also hyperlipoproteinaemic, being offspring of a hyperlipoproteinaemic sire and a normolipoproteinaemic dam. Two kittens showed clinical signs of acute hepatic disease with severe icterus. Necropsy revealed multiple focal lesions in the liver, myocardium and intestines. Histological examination confirmed the presence of organisms resembling Bacillus piliformis in viable hepatocytes adjacent to necrotic liver tissue. Apart from the hyperlipoproteinaemia no predisposing ‘stress’ factors were identified.
